Toyota has announced that its latest battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will come equipped with Apple Maps EV routing, a feature that uses real-time battery information to help drivers plan charging stops along their route.
The new feature is expected to be available on all 2023 and newer BEV models, including the Toyota bZ4X, which is being replaced by the bZ. Apple Maps will take into account factors such as battery performance and elevation changes when estimating battery percentages on arrival and charging times.
To enable this feature, automakers must work with Apple to access the car's battery information. This is a significant development for electric vehicle owners who have previously relied on third-party apps to find compatible chargers.
However, it appears that the integration of Apple Maps EV routing is still relatively limited, with only a handful of vehicles currently compatible, including the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Tesla Model X, and Porsche Taycan. The rollout is expected to expand in the coming months.
Toyota has also announced that its upcoming 2026 model, the bZ, will have access to over 25,000 charging locations through the Tesla Supercharger network. The new vehicle will feature the NACS charging standard, which was first developed by Tesla before being made available for the entire industry.
