Suspect ID'd in SoCal deputy's killing, wild motorcycle chase as flags fly at half-staff statewide

Tragedy Strikes SoCal: Suspect ID'd in Deputy's Killing, Wild Motorcycle Chase Leaves Community in Shock

A shocking turn of events unfolded in Rancho Cucamonga, California, as a suspect was identified in the fatal shooting of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Nuñez. The incident sparked a wild motorcycle chase that ended in a violent crash on the 210 Freeway, leaving many to wonder how things took such a deadly turn.

According to authorities, Angelo Jose Saldivar, 47, a resident of San Bernardino, is the suspect behind the killing of Nuñez. While Saldivar was taken into custody and transported to the hospital in stable condition after the crash, he remains under investigation for murder. Domestic violence charges may also be filed.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a condominium complex in Rancho Cucamonga. As soon as they arrived at the scene, Saldivar fired upon the officers, striking Nuñez with a single gunshot wound to the head. The 28-year-old deputy was rushed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The chase that ensued saw Saldivar fleeing on his motorcycle, prompting an intense pursuit by law enforcement. A dramatic scene unfolded as officers engaged the suspect, who pulled out what appeared to be a weapon moments before the crash on the 210 Freeway. An off-duty narcotics officer conducted a "legal intervention" by striking the suspect on the motorcycle, which sparked the fatal accident.

The aftermath of the incident has left the community in shock, with hundreds of officers participating in a long procession to transport Nuñez's body from the hospital to the coroner's office. The governor and other officials have extended their condolences to Nuñez's family, friends, and colleagues, highlighting his courage, compassion, and dedication to protecting others.

In addition, a donation page has been set up by the sheriff's department to support Nuñez's pregnant wife, Roxy, who is also a stay-at-home mom. The outpouring of support from the community is a testament to the impact that one individual can have on the lives of those around them.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and share their thoughts on this senseless tragedy. In the meantime, the community remains in mourning for Deputy Nuñez, who will be remembered as a wonderful father and dedicated public servant.

🚨 28-yr-old cop down 💔 what's goin' on with these crazy people? 🤯 domestic violence call turns into shootout & chase 🚗💥 just when u think it can't get worse, he takes out a deputy 😢 gotta be some sick individual to do this 🤕

just heard about this crazy case... what's going through someone's mind to go from domestic violence call to shooting a deputy? 🤯 it's like they just flipped a switch 😱 and now an innocent officer is dead... i'm so glad law enforcement was on the scene, but ugh, that motorcycle chase was insane 🚴‍♂️💥 and now there's a suspect in custody who's gonna face some serious charges 💔 can't even begin to imagine what the deputy's family must be going through 🤕

man, can you believe what happened? it's like, one minute he's responding to a call, next thing you know he's being gunned down 😱. and that motorcycle chase, wild! i'm just glad the cops were able to intervene before things got even worse. but ugh, so sad for Nuñez's family, especially his pregnant wife 🤰♀️. it's crazy how something like this can happen in our own backyard. anyway, i wonder if there was more to that domestic violence call than meets the eye... maybe they should've gotten a warrant or somethin' 🤔

This is just getting out of hand 🤯... some dude goes crazy and starts shooting at cops because his girlfriend called 911 on him and now we've got a deputy dead and another guy in the hospital? What's wrong with people these days?! And what's with this "legal intervention" thingy, like that's gonna solve anything? Just more people getting hurt 🚫. I'm not buying all this "community support" stuff either, sounds like just a bunch of PR to me... and another donation page to line someone's pockets... just great 😒.

omg 😱 i cant even process this 😔 the fact that this man had to die like that is just heartbreaking 💔 he was a deputy, a hero 🙏 and all because of someone else's anger issues 🤯 what really gets me is how the community came together to support Roxy & their unborn baby 👶💕 it's a beautiful reminder of the good people out there ❤️

🤕 my heart goes out to deputy nuñez's family, such a tragic loss... i was watching the video of that chase and it's just so intense 😱 i don't know what would have happened if that off-duty narcotics officer hadn't intervened. anyway, i hope saldivar gets the help he needs because clearly something is very wrong here 🤔. and kudos to those officers who are participating in the procession today 💕 it's a reminder of how much we owe our first responders for putting themselves in harm's way every day 👮‍♂️

my heart goes out to deputy nuñez's family, he was only 28 and had his whole life ahead of him 🤕 this senseless tragedy is just too much. I'm so glad the officers were able to apprehend the suspect but at what cost? it's not right that our law enforcement has to deal with such violence on a daily basis 💔 we need to find ways to prevent these incidents from happening in the first place, not just react after they happen 🚨 and what about Saldivar's family, are they going to be okay too? 💕 this whole thing is just so heartbreaking

omg just saw that deputy nuñez was only 28 🤕 u can't even imagine how scaring it must've been 4 him & his family to be in the middle of all this chaos. anyway did u know that california has one of the highest rates of police brutality in the country? anyway, like i don't wanna speculate or anything, but i cant help but wonder if there were any warning signs that deputies could've looked out for 🤔 https://www.buzzfeed.com/articles/police-brutality-statistics

🤕 this is just so sad it's like how things were supposed to go down but then they don't u know? first they find the guy responsible and now there's even more charges coming his way which is crazy but also what can u do? my heart goes out to Deputy Nuñez's family & friends he was only 28 & had a whole life ahead of him 🙏

Man... thinkin' about what happened to that deputy really hits home. It's like, one minute he's just doin' his job, helpin' people out, and the next he's facin' some crazy dude with a gun. It's a harsh reminder of how quickly things can go wrong in life. You've got to respect the power of a moment, you know? One wrong move can lead to devastating consequences. We gotta be careful about what we say and do, 'cause it can have a ripple effect on others. Take a step back, breathe, and think about the impact your actions might have on someone else. That's the key to avoidin' situations like this from happenin'. 🤦‍♂️💔
