Nudist neighbours to sweary mums: the best TV characters you never actually see on screen

A new face appears across our screens daily yet we rarely look at the invisible figures behind the scenes of what is often described as our television companions; characters we know, who have long been an integral component to their series.

Ugly Naked Guy from Friends remains stubbornly unseen throughout his tenure on the popular sitcom. He lives in the flat next door to Monica and Rachel's, never closes his curtains, sleeps in a hammock beside the window, while leaving fans with more questions than answers: who plays him? In fact, this mystery person was eventually revealed but the public fascination surrounding Ugly Naked Guy continues.

In contrast, Erica is known to none of us. BoJack Horseman's show frequently invokes her character throughout its six-season run; however, the voice behind this intriguing woman remains unknown to the general public.

While we have encountered The Prime Minister in The Thick of It, we never lay eyes on him; instead, they come across as towering figures who dominate our screens. However, those towering figures are often nothing more than a symbol of authority.

Almost all we know about Norm's wife comes from his descriptions to us. She is married to Norm and he frequently insults her but there was one instance where she appeared in the popular sitcom yet her face remained obscured by a pie that had been thrown at her.

Meanwhile, Alan Partridge has become known for his comedic persona as a radio DJ but we never catch sight of his ex-wife during I'm Alan Partridge; her voice is heard however and according to him they have a history with each other.

On the television series Seinfeld, there is Bob Sacamano who boasts of inventing balls-elastic-bands tennis racket attachments yet when he appears on screen in front of Kramer, he's not actually seen. We hear plenty about him though from his long-winded monologues.

When it comes to Keeping Up Appearances the unseen figure is none other than Sheridan Bucket, the son of Hyacinth Bucket; this has provided an amusing insight into this character and his family life.

Mrs Columbo lives almost entirely through her husband's descriptions - a characteristic of Columbo that remains iconic even today.

omg u guys ever wondered who's behind the scenes of ur fave tv shows? like, there r so many awesome characters but no 1 knows who plays them πŸ˜‚ Ugly Naked Guy from Friends is lowkey my fave, but can we pls get a glimpse of Erica from BoJack Horseman? πŸ€” their voices r iconic tho! and seinfeld's Bob Sacamano is hilarious, wish he was on screen more lol. Keeping Up Appearances has Sheridan Bucket & I love how hyacinth bucket's son is this random character who's not even seen πŸ˜‚ what r ur fave unseen tv characters? πŸ€”

I'm so over it when creators hide their writers behind the scenes πŸ™„. Like, who are these people? I mean, I get it, sometimes they're just background figures, but when there's an entire episode built around a character and we still don't see them... it's just annoying πŸ˜’. And can we talk about how obscure Erica is from BoJack Horseman? Like, what's up with that? πŸ€” It's not like she's some minor character or anything. I swear, sometimes I find myself searching for the actor online just to see who's behind the voice πŸ“Ί. It's just so frustrating when we can't even get a glimpse of these people 😑.

The way we think about these behind-the-scenes characters is crazy 🀯. I mean, who wouldn't want to know what's going on in the life of Ugly Naked Guy or Sheridan Bucket? They're like the ultimate mystery figures, and yet, they remain so fascinating πŸ˜‚. It's like our brains are wired to be curious about these invisible people.

And it makes me think, how much do we really know about each other, even in real life? We present this curated version of ourselves on social media, but who's behind the scenes? πŸ€” I think that's what makes BoJack Horseman's show so intriguing – Erica is like an enigma, and her voice is always there, but we never see her face. It's like she's this mysterious presence that haunts the entire series.

I love how these shows use these invisible characters to tell us more about themselves than the actual main characters πŸ˜‚. It's like they're saying, "Hey, you think you know me? Think again."

.. think about it... we're so caught up in the characters on screen, but what about the people behind them? The ones who breathe their air, sweat their tears, and live their lives while we watch theirs on TV? πŸ€” It's like, do they have their own storylines too? Do they feel invisible just because we can't see them? I mean, Erica in BoJack Horseman... she's just as important as BoJack, but we don't know who's bringing her to life. What does that say about our priorities? πŸ“Ί We're so focused on the faces we do see, we forget there are entire people hiding in the shadows. It's like, can we really separate the character from the actor? Or is it all just a blur of smoke and mirrors? 🎭

OMG u guys!! 🀯 I just looked up these characters & it's wild how much we know about them from dialogue alone πŸ“ΊπŸ‘€

So like, Erica from BoJack Horseman was voiced by Aya Cash, but nobody knew until 2022 😱. And did u know that the Ugly Naked Guy from Friends was actually played by a guy named Harold Ramis, but still no face pics? 🀣

The Prime Minister in The Thick of It is just a prop right? πŸ“ΊπŸ‘Š They never show his face, but we can imagine the drama he must be causing behind the scenes πŸ˜‚.

Norm's wife from Seinfeld was just a sound, like a "voice on the side" lol 🀣. And Bob Sacamano's monologues are EVERYTHING πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

I'm low-key obsessed with these characters now... πŸ“Ί Who else is? πŸ€”

come on 🀯 you're telling me we've spent like 10 years laughing at these characters but the people behind them are basically invisible? it's like they're ghost writers or something. and don't even get me started on how much I want to see Erica from BoJack Horseman, she sounds so interesting! i mean what's up with Alan Partridge though, his ex-wife has a voice but no face? that's just weird πŸ˜‚

πŸ€” "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." - Oscar Wilde πŸ’‘

You know, it's crazy how we focus on the characters with faces, while those behind the scenes are just as fascinating. I mean, who doesn't love a good mystery? πŸŽ‰ Ugly Naked Guy might have been eventually revealed, but his enigma lives on in our minds. And Erica from BoJack Horseman? Completely unknown to us, yet we feel her presence.

It's like you said, those in power are often just symbols of authority, hiding behind their screens. No face, no fear? 😬 But what about the ones who aren't seen, yet make an impact? Norm's wife might be faceless, but she's still got a personality that shines through. πŸ’β€β™€οΈ And then there's Alan Partridge... where's his ex-wife, you ask? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

We might not see them on screen, but they're all part of the show, making us laugh, cry, and think. "The medium is the message." - Marshall McLuhan πŸ“Ί

πŸ€” You know what really gets me is how often we focus on the main characters in our favorite shows, but the ones behind the scenes are just as interesting. I mean, have you ever wondered what's going on in Ugly Naked Guy's life? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's crazy how much mystery surrounds him and yet he's still such an iconic part of Friends.

And then there's BoJack Horseman's Erica... I feel like we've all been in her shoes, trying to figure out what's really going on behind the scenes. It's almost like the writers knew that by keeping her voice a secret, they could create this air of intrigue around her character.

You know, it's funny how these shows use these invisible characters to add depth and complexity to their stories. And it makes me think... maybe we should start paying more attention to those people behind the scenes, because they're often the ones making the show truly special. πŸ“ΊπŸ’‘

πŸ€” I'm so curious about these unseen characters, you know? Like, who is the voice behind BoJack Horseman's Erica? 🎭 And what's up with Ugly Naked Guy not getting any screen time? πŸ˜‚ I feel like we're just as invested in their stories as we are in the main characters. It's crazy how much our perceptions of these shows rely on these invisible figures, isn't it? πŸ‘€ They might be unseen, but they definitely have an impact on the show πŸ“Ί.

I love how these shows can still manage to surprise us even after multiple viewings 🀯. I mean, think about it – we've spent so much time watching these characters on screen, but what about the people behind them? It's crazy that Ugly Naked Guy was basically a mystery for years and people were invested in finding out who played him πŸ˜‚. And BoJack Horseman's Erica is another great example – I'm definitely adding it to my watchlist now!

I also feel like these characters are more interesting when we don't see them, you know? Like, Bob Sacamano's monologues about his invention sound hilarious, and I love how he's basically a one-man show. And Mrs Columbo is just the best – her husband does all the talking for her 🀣.

It's weird that these shows use voice actors instead of showing their faces, but it actually adds to the humor and mystery, right? πŸ˜„

πŸ˜‚ I'm so late to the party on this one! Anyway, I think it's kinda weird how we never get to see some of these characters in person. Like, what's up with Ugly Naked Guy? Is he just too lazy or something? 🀣 And I feel like Erica from BoJack Horseman is like the ultimate mystery woman - we know so much about her through other characters but we can't even see her face! It's like she's this enigmatic figure that only appears in our imagination. πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

And can you believe no one ever sees Alan Partridge's ex-wife? That's just sad πŸ€•. And I love how Seinfeld uses Bob Sacamano as more of a narrator than an actual character - it's like we're just getting all the info from him and not even seeing his face! πŸ˜‚ It's also funny how some shows make their unseen characters super important to the storyline, but you still don't get to see them. Like, Sheridan Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances is basically the most interesting character of the whole show 🀣.

I guess what I'm saying is that our brains can play tricks on us and we fill in the blanks with our imagination when it comes to these unseen characters... or maybe we're just too lazy to look for them πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

I think it's pretty cool how some TV shows leave out the main people behind their characters. I mean, it's not like they're being ignored or anything. It's just that sometimes these behind-the-scenes folks can be kinda... forgettable. Like, who needs to know what Ugly Naked Guy looks like when his whole 'thing' is being awkward and weird? And Erica in BoJack Horseman? She sounds super interesting, but does she really need a face to make her character work? I guess it's because some of these characters are so defined by their quirks and traits that we don't even need to see them. It's like, the mystery is part of the charm.

I think the creators just forgot to include them or maybe they were too scared to show their faces πŸ˜‚ I mean, who needs to see the person behind the character anyway? It's not like it changes the show that much... unless they actually did have a face and some of those characters are just plain ugly 🀣. On the other hand, maybe we're lucky they didn't choose to include them so the writers can focus on the storylines instead. Wait, no, I'm sure they were just trying to keep it subtle and not distract from the real stars of the show... or something? πŸ€”

i think its kinda weird how our fave tv characters have friends or spouses who are literally invisible to us πŸ€” but still get talked about like they're part of the show. it feels like their mystery is just as intriguing as the character themselves sometimes πŸ˜‚ like who is norm's wife, we know she exists but when did she appear on seinfeld again? anyway, its fun to try and imagine what these characters would be like if we could see them πŸ“Ί

I'm literally loving this thread πŸ€”! You know who I think is super underrated? The voice actors behind some of these characters! Like, Erica from BoJack Horseman, she's got such a great role but we don't even get to see her face? It's like, what even is going on there?! πŸ˜‚ And can you imagine Norm's wife showing up without any makeup or filter? That would be hilarious 🀣. I also feel for Bob Sacamano from Seinfeld, he's just so enthusiastic and annoying at the same time πŸ™„. The whole thing about his racket attachments is like, what even is that?! πŸ˜‚ It's crazy how much background characters can add to a show without us even realizing it! πŸ‘€

I think its kinda weird we never see these behind-the-scenes characters in their full glory πŸ€”. Its like they're there but just out of frame, which adds to the mystique around them 😊. Ugly Naked Guy is still one of my fave enigmas from Friends – what's his story? πŸ’

I'm literally dying to know who plays Erica in BoJack Horseman πŸ€”. I mean, the show is so good but we don't get to see her face at all? It's like she's this mysterious figure just floating around. I'm also kinda intrigued by Ugly Naked Guy - I wish he was more than just a weirdo next door πŸ˜‚. And can you imagine having a wife who's always getting hit with pies? 🍴 Norm's wife is literally the most underappreciated character ever! On a different note, I think it's so cool how some characters are only heard from their partners or family members - it adds to the mystery and intrigue of the show. I'm definitely gonna have to rewatch some of these shows now that I know there's more to them than just what we see on screen πŸ“Ί

I'm loving how we're getting to know some of these behind-the-scenes characters better πŸ€”. I think it's kinda funny how some shows make us think we know these people, but really they're just voice cameos or brief appearances. It's like, yeah, that's definitely the guy who's always talking about his invention πŸ˜‚. But honestly, it's interesting to see how much work goes into creating these characters without showing their faces too much. Maybe it's a clever way to make them more mysterious and intriguing? 🎬
