More than 60 Henri Matisse artworks donated to Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris

Henri Matisse Legacy Expands as 61 Works Added to Paris Museum

A rare and historic donation of 61 works by Henri Matisse has been made to the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, with many pieces featuring the artist's daughter Marguerite. The generous bequest, courtesy of Barbara Dauphin Duthuit, Matisse's granddaughter-in-law, is a significant boost to the museum's collection, which already boasts 20 works by the iconic artist.

The donated artworks include paintings, drawings, etchings, lithographs, and a sculpture, all showcasing Marguerite, who was Matisse's favourite subject. The portraits depict her in various settings, often wearing high-necked blouses or ribbons to conceal her scar from a childhood illness that required an emergency tracheotomy.

Marguerite, born during Matisse's relationship with model Caroline Joblau, became the artist's muse and adopted daughter when he married four years later. She played a pivotal role in promoting his work after his death at 84, and continued to catalog his art until her own passing in Paris in 1982.

The value of this donation lies not only in its rarity but also in Matisse's unconventional decision to keep his artworks within the family rather than selling them. The museum is now home to a collection that will continue to grow with these new additions, ensuring Marguerite's legacy as an integral part of her father's artistic heritage.

The museum has welcomed this extraordinary donation with open arms, describing it as "exceptional and historic". Fabrice Hergott, the director, praised the portraits of Marguerite, calling them "extremely beautiful and moving".

I just love seeing more of Matisse's art out there 🎨💕. I mean, his daughter Marguerite was like, totally his muse & everything... *sketch* Imagine a big circle with a person (Marguerite) in the center, surrounded by little squares (artworks) that represent her life & influence on Matisse... That's just so cool 🤯. I'm glad someone like Barbara Dauphin Duthuit is keeping his legacy alive. It's amazing how these artworks are now part of a bigger collection at the Paris Museum... I wonder what other secrets they'll uncover about Matisse & Marguerite's life together 😊.

Ugh, I'm so over how everyone's fawning all over Matisse right now 🙄. Like, yeah sure, the guy was a genius and all that jazz, but let's be real, his artwork is just a bunch of old-school pretty pictures 🎨. And don't even get me started on Marguerite - she sounds like a total drama queen with her scar and emergency tracheotomy 💉. I mean, who needs that kind of attention? The fact that he kept all these artworks within the family just means they're all going to end up in some dusty old museum that nobody actually visits 🏛️. And honestly, 61 works is a whole lotta art 🤯. Can't we just have a good ol' fashioned art scandal for once instead of this sugary sweet Matisse fanfare?

I'm so stoked to hear about this huge addition to the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris 🎨💥. I mean, 61 works by Henri Matisse? That's like a dream come true for art lovers everywhere! And can you believe that most of these pieces feature his daughter Marguerite? She was clearly the muse and inspiration behind some of his most iconic works. It's amazing to think about how this donation is not only expanding the museum's collection but also giving Marguerite her due recognition as a artist in her own right 🙌.

The fact that Matisse chose to keep these artworks within the family rather than selling them is just so cool 😎. I mean, can you imagine what his estate would be worth if he'd sold all these pieces? It's like he knew they were too precious to be parted with 💕. And now we get to enjoy them and learn more about Marguerite's life and legacy through her dad's art. Total win 🎉!

Matisse's legacy is already so sick 💁‍♀️, but I'm not surprised to see more of his work being added to the Paris museum. The fact that Marguerite was such a big part of his life and art is pretty fascinating. Those portraits of her are supposed to be super beautiful and moving 🌹, but I'd love to see some more context about why Matisse chose to depict her in certain settings. And what's up with the scar covering? Was that just for aesthetic reasons or was there something deeper going on? 😕 Still, it's awesome that his granddaughter-in-law donated all these works – it's definitely a boost to their collection 🎉

This is like, so amazing!!! 🤩 I mean, who doesn't love Matisse? His art is literally so iconic and inspiring. And to think he donated most of his own work to the museum? That's just incredible. The portraits of Marguerite are probably my fave part - it's wild that her scar was hidden with ribbons and stuff. It's like, this whole other side of Matisse we didn't know about. And I love how she kept his art alive after he passed away - talk about dedication! 💕

🤕 Another art collection is getting a huge boost but let's be real, how many more museums can we afford with rising inflation? 📉💸 And what about accessibility? Will these new pieces be open to the public or locked away for the elite? 🚪😒 The museum just wants to stroke its ego by owning another chunk of Matisse's work... meanwhile, the artist's daughter Marguerite's life story is being sanitized and commercialized 💔

I'm not entirely sold on the hype surrounding Matisse's latest addition to the Paris Museum. I mean, 61 works from his daughter Marguerite? It's a nice gesture, but is it really necessary for the museum's collection? In my opinion, Matisse's art is already iconic enough without having to rely on personal family ties to justify its inclusion. Don't get me wrong, Marguerite was definitely an important part of her dad's life and artistic process... but are these portraits really that groundbreaking? 🤔💁‍♀️

OMG 🤩🎨 the Musée d'Art Moderne just got a major boost with this epic donation of 61 works by Henri Matisse 🌟! I'm all about that #MatisseLife 💁‍♀️, especially Marguerite's pics - those high-necked blouses and ribbons are giving me LIFE 💃. But what's even more amazing is that Matisse kept his art within the family, not selling it like a norm 🤝. That's so beautiful (pun intended) for keeping the legacy alive! 😊

🎨💖 Just imagine walking into that Paris Museum and seeing all these stunning pieces by Matisse! It's amazing to think about his daughter Marguerite being such a big part of his art – she was more than just a muse, she was like family. 🤗 And can you believe the story behind those scarves? That's some crazy history right there. 💁‍♀️ I'm so glad this museum is getting all these beautiful works to share with everyone. It's gonna be so cool to see Marguerite's pieces up close – I've only seen pics! 📸 What a way for Matisse's legacy to keep living on, right? ❤️

I'm so stoked to hear about this amazing donation 🤩! It's incredible that Barbara Dauphin Duthuit is preserving Matisse's legacy for future generations. I mean, can you even imagine the museum without these 61 stunning works? The fact that they're featuring Marguerite as the main subject is just genius - it's like she was meant to be an artist herself 🎨. And let's give a shoutout to Fabrice Hergott for recognizing the beauty and significance of these pieces 😊. This donation is not only expanding the museum's collection but also celebrating the strong bond between Matisse and his family 💕.

Ugh, can't believe they're not showcasing all 61 pieces online 🤦‍♂️. I mean, come on, we want to see more Matisse! 🎨 The museum is already getting flak for how expensive tickets are, so at least give us some free goodies online 💸. Plus, the fact that they're not making all these works available for streaming or something feels like a snub 🙄. Don't get me wrong, I love Marguerite and all, but I'm more of a "Matisse for the masses" kinda guy 🤷‍♂️. Anyway, glad it's good to see his daughter getting some recognition 💕.

I'm lovin' this new addition to the Paris Museum! I mean, can you imagine walkin' into a gallery with all these stunning Matisse pieces? It's like steppin' back in time, ya know? The fact that Marguerite was Matisse's muse and adopted daughter makes it even more special. I'm intrigued by the story behind those high-necked blouses... like, what's up with them? 🤔🎨 Anyway, it's awesome to see Matisse's legacy gettin' a major boost! 😊

I don’t usually comment but I think this is amazing news! 🤩 61 works by Henri Matisse adding to the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris is a game-changer. The fact that they're mostly portraits of his daughter Marguerite, especially with her scar hidden away, shows how much he loved and appreciated her as an artist and as a person.

It's also super cool that she got to play such a big role in promoting his work after he passed away. I mean, can you imagine having a grandfather like Matisse? 🤯 The museum is basically getting a treasure trove of art and history now, and it's all thanks to this generous donation from Barbara Dauphin Duthuit.

I'm also thinking about how this adds to our understanding of the artist's life and work. We already knew he was special, but seeing these portraits up close must give you chills. Matisse's daughter is basically an art icon now 😎

Ugh, 61 new works by Matisse is cool and all 🎨, but can they at least make the website less of a pain to navigate? Every time I try to look up one of the artworks, it takes me on this crazy journey through different tabs and pages... so frustrating 🤯! And what's with the "exceptional and historic" buzzwords? Can't they just give us some actual info about each piece? Like, how old is it, what materials was used, that kinda stuff? The family ties are nice, but let's not forget we're here for the art 🙄.

omg 😍 just heard about this amazing news! Matisse's granddaughter-in-law is a total hero for donating all these stunning works to the Paris Museum 🎨. I mean, can you imagine how incredible it must've been to grow up surrounded by art created by one of the greatest artists of all time? 💡 Marguerite's story is so inspiring - from being his muse to carrying on his legacy after he passed away... she's a true artist in her own right 🖌️. And I love how Matisse kept his artworks within the family, it's like he wanted to share that part of himself with the people closest to him ❤️. The Paris Museum is one lucky place to get these rare pieces! 💯

I just got back from the most amazing hike over the weekend 🏞️. The trail was lined with these gorgeous wildflowers that were just blooming everywhere. I swear, it's like nature just decided to put on a show for me. And you know what's crazy? I took a photo of this one specific spot and now it's on my phone wallpaper. It's so silly how something as simple as a flower can make us feel all nostalgic and stuff.

I mean, have you ever noticed how much your favorite spots can change just because the seasons are different? I went back to that same hike last year in winter and it was completely transformed. The trees were all bare and the whole vibe was so peaceful... anyway, what's on your mind after reading about Matisse's new donation? 🤔
