Giorgia Meloni's face on a church mural is offensive – but not for the reason the Vatican thinks | Jonathan Jones

I dunno about this one 🤔... I mean, it's gotta be hard for the Church to not be like "wait, what's up with the face of Giorgia Meloni in a church mural? 😂" But at the same time, can't we just have some art that's a little more...unapologetic? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, those historical frescoes from Florence were basically like public portraits on steroids. And Michelangelo was all about capturing the human form in a way that was both beautiful and thought-provoking. 🎨

It seems to me that the Church is trying to tiptoe around some pretty sensitive issues by removing artworks that might be considered "too contentious". But isn't that kinda like stifling artistic expression? I feel like Bruno Valentinetti's piece, for all its amateurishness, had some value to it – maybe we just need to talk about what that value is and how we can work within those boundaries. 🤝

🤯 I think the Vatican needs to chill out about this mural, you know? Like, Bruno Valentinetti's art is not hurting anyone, it's just a tribute to Umberto II and Giorgia Meloni looks pretty cool in the clouds 🌫️💁‍♀️. The Church is always trying to keep up with modern times, but sometimes that means being a bit too PC 😂. I mean, we all know Italy has a rich history of depicting famous people in art, like those Renaissance frescoes in Florence 💥. And let's be real, Michelangelo's Last Judgment is basically just a giant portrait gallery 🤪. Anyway, if the Church wants to keep up with contemporary politics, maybe they should start embracing some controversy rather than trying to tone it down all the time 😅.

🤔 The whole thing seems kinda fishy to me... I mean, what changed? Art has always been about depicting real people and events. Those Italian artists back in the day did it all the time without anyone complaining too much. 🙄 It's like now everyone's so worried about offending someone that they're going to have a hissy fit over a church mural. 😬 The Vatican's taking umbrage because Valentinetti made Giorgia Meloni look, well, like herself. What's wrong with that? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 I mean, come on... you can't just erase someone's face from art because they're a politician now? Like, what's next? Are we gonna start burning the Mona Lisa too? 🎨 The Vatican needs to chill out and remember that art is supposed to be about expression, not censorship. And btw, it's an 83-year-old artist who's being judged for his work... doesn't he get some respect? 😒
