After the glory of Euro 2025, what happened next for Switzerland?

Switzerland's Women's European Championship was a resounding success for the small Alpine nation, bringing with it a renewed sense of pride and a modest but significant boost to women's football in the country. When it came to translating this momentum into domestic competition, however, the results have been less dramatic – yet still encouraging.

While the national team's quarter-final appearance was a major achievement, the attendance figures at club level haven't quite matched the hype surrounding the tournament. According to Switzerland's Football Association (FSF), the Women's Super League has seen a 62% increase in attendances this season, with an average of 787 fans per match – a significant jump from last year, when average attendances were around 455.

Grasshopper, currently second in the league, has enjoyed an even greater increase in attendance, jumping to 450 fans per game from just 300 last season. Thun, meanwhile, have seen their numbers more than double, with an average of 326 fans attending matches this campaign – a major turnaround from their attendance of 156 last year.

While these figures are certainly heartening, they're still short of the huge spike in attendances England's Women's Super League experienced after Euro 2022. Nevertheless, it's clear that Switzerland is taking steps to improve the fan experience and encourage more supporters to turn out for matches.

Basel's women's sporting director, Fabian Sanginés, has highlighted the importance of going beyond gimmicks like free popcorn for kids – while such initiatives have had a positive impact, they're just the tip of the iceberg. "We need to focus on long-term sustainability and not just rely on short-term hype," he warned.

Despite this, there's been an unmistakable increase in interest in Swiss women's football, with their first home game after Euro 2025 – a 1-0 win over Canada in Lucerne – attracting a crowd of 10,025 fans. While this is still shy of the tournament record attendance at the Euros, it represents a clear uptick in enthusiasm and demonstrates that Switzerland's women's team are building momentum.

As Sanginés noted, "We're seeing a steady increase in interest and attendance figures for our matches," with the FSF promising to explore ways to enhance the fan experience during World Cup qualifiers. Whether these efforts will be enough to sustain the growth in attendances remains to be seen – but one thing's certain: Switzerland is taking its women's football seriously, and the results are starting to show.

FSW attendance numbers still a bit wonky 😐 62% increase not bad, but England WSL jumped from around 500 to 2k+ after Euro 2022 🤔

the fact that they're still 62% short of england's super league attendance after their amazing euro 2022 performance is a bit concerning 🤔...but at the same time, i think it's awesome that switzerland is making strides in promoting women's football and getting more fans involved - like, who wouldn't want to watch a game with free popcorn for kids? 😉 seriously though, it's all about building long-term sustainability and not just relying on gimmicks. let's see how they do at world cup qualifiers 🏆

I'm loving this renewed interest in Swiss women's football 🤩! The increase in attendance at club level might not be as dramatic as some other countries, but it's still a big deal for a smaller nation like Switzerland. I think what's key is that they're not just relying on gimmicks to attract fans (although free popcorn for kids can't hurt 😉). They're focusing on long-term sustainability and making sure the fan experience is top-notch.

It's great to see the women's team building momentum, especially after a strong showing at Euro 2025. And let's be real, 10,025 fans at their first home game since the tournament? That's no small potatoes 🎉! It shows that there's a genuine enthusiasm for Swiss women's football out there, and I'm excited to see where this momentum takes them.

Of course, it's always about consistency and making sure the growth in attendances can be sustained over time. But overall, I think Switzerland is on the right track 🚀, and with continued investment and attention to detail, they could become a real force to be reckoned with in women's football.

🤔 so i'm reading this about switzerland's women's euro championship and it's all good vibes for the team and stuff... but what really got me was that their women's super league attendance has increased by 62% this season 📈 that's not bad at all! and it's even better when you see clubs like grasshopper and thun seeing huge jumps in attendance 🎉 especially basel, they're trying to do more than just give away free popcorn for kids, they want to focus on making the fan experience sustainable long-term 💡 which is really cool.

anyway, i'm excited to see how switzerland's women's team keeps building momentum and maybe even breaks through to bigger competitions 🌟

idk why ppl think it's weird 4 switzerland 2 b all excited about womens football lol 🤷‍♀️. first off, our national team actually did pretty well in Euro 2025 🏆 and that's gotta count for something! and now ur saying we should b happy with a 62% increase in attendance? 😐 yeah sure, but let's not forget englands womens league saw like, a MILLION times more fans goin2 matches after their tourney 🤯. still tho, i gotta give credit where credit is due...our Womens Super League did see an uptick in attendances this season 📊 and grassroots clubs like Grasshopper & Thun r doin some cool stuff 2 try 2 attract more fans 🎉.

basel's director Fabian Sanginés is right tho, we can't just rely on gimmicks 4 short-term gains lol. we need 2 focus on buildin long-term sustainability and gettin more invested in the community 🌱💚. still, its awesome 2 c ppl gettin excited about womens football n im all 4 it too 🤩! [ diagram of a heart ❤️ ]

omg i just saw that switzerland had a bunch of ppl at their game 🤩, 10k fans!! thats like super impressive! im not really sure how they did it tho... wasnt euro 2022 some big deal for football? and whats with all the talking about increasing attendance and stuff? is there actually a lot of people who dont go to swiss womens footy games lol?

⚽️ So I think it's awesome that Swiss women's football is gaining some momentum after their successful Euro 2022 run! 🙌 The fact that they're seeing a 62% increase in attendances for the Women's Super League is already pretty impressive, and it's even more encouraging to see teams like Grasshopper and Thun seeing such big jumps. 💥 It's clear that the Swiss Football Association is doing something right – from focusing on long-term sustainability to trying out new initiatives (although maybe some gimmicks like free popcorn for kids aren't enough 😉). But what's really cool is the enthusiasm and interest in Swiss women's football, as seen at their recent matches. With a crowd of 10,025 fans showing up for their match against Canada, I think it's safe to say that Switzerland is on the rise when it comes to women's football! 🚀

omg u know i was like super hyped 4 switzerlands women european championship 🤩 lol didnt expect them 2 do so well!!! they really brought a lot of pride & momentum 2 their women's football scene which is def awesome 4 the future of womens football in switzerland! its cool 2 c them takin steps 2 improve fans experience & get more ppl interested, like fabian sangines saying we need 2 go beyond gimmicks & focus on long term sustainability 🤔 lets c how it all plays out 🎉

🤕 The Women's Super League attendance numbers may have increased by 62%, but let's not get too excited, it's still a far cry from England's Women's Super League after Euro 2022 🙅‍♂️. And with an average of just 787 fans per match, we're talking tiny crowds here 😴. I mean, what's the plan to keep them coming back? They could be playing in empty stadiums come World Cup qualifiers 🏟️. Switzerland's football association is doing some good work, but it's all still a bit too little, too late 🕰️.

so i was watching this switzerland womens football game with my friends and it was lit 🤩 they actually drew a crowd of like 10000 people which is insane for a smaller country lol Switzerland is really trying to step up their womens football game and its cool to see them getting more attention now that they made it to the european championship 🏆

omg 62% increase in attendance is still kinda low tbh lol think they should do more promotions and stuff like give free tickets to fans who share their team on socials 💖 anyway i love that grasshopper and thun are killing it this season 🎉 and i'm all for more sustainable initiatives not just gimmicks like free popcorn 🍿

so the Swiss women's team had a good run at Euro 2023, but now they're trying to keep it going with more fans at their club matches... that's awesome 🤩, I mean, 787 fans per game is still a lot lower than some other leagues, but like Basel said, it's progress not perfection. free popcorn for kids might sound small, but those things add up and can make a difference. the fact that they're focusing on long-term sustainability now shows they're thinking about the future of women's football in Switzerland 🌟

omg u guys i just got back from watching the swiss womens team play in lucerne and it was SO hyped!!! the energy in the stadium was electric and i'm literally still buzzing from it lol 10k fans for a game that didnt even count towards euro 2026 or anything is lowkey amazing considering how tiny the country is 🤯 my fave player basel girls scored the goal and i screamed so loud i think the person next to me thought i was going crazy 😂 but seriously, its awesome to see switzerland taking womens football more seriously now we just need more ppl to come out and support them lol 💖

I think it's awesome that Swiss women's football is gaining traction 🙌. The fact that they're seeing a 62% increase in attendances at the Women's Super League this season is definitely a positive step forward ⚽️. I mean, 787 fans per match might not be the highest attendance in the league, but it's still a respectable number considering where they started last year 🤔.

I think the key to sustaining this growth is for the Football Association to focus on long-term sustainability, like Basel's sporting director Fabian Sanginés mentioned 💡. Free popcorn for kids might get some extra bums on seats initially, but it's not going to make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things 🍿.

What I'm really excited about is that Switzerland is taking its women's football seriously and exploring ways to enhance the fan experience during World Cup qualifiers 🎯. If they can keep building momentum like this, who knows what the future holds for Swiss women's football? The energy and enthusiasm are palpable, and I think it's only a matter of time before we see some serious investment in the sport ⏱️.

the swiss womens team might not have broken any records for attendance yet 🤔, but its defo a good start! i mean, 787 fans per match is still way better than last year... and clubs like grasshopper and thun are doing amazingly well with their attendance numbers. its awesome to see them invest in improving the fan experience too 💖, even if fabian sanginés says they gotta focus on sustainability for the long term 🙌. i just wanna keep watching swiss womens football grow and get more popular! ⚽🇨🇭

I don't usually comment but I gotta say, it's kinda cool to see Switzerland getting all excited about women's football 🤩👍! The numbers might not be huge yet, but 62% increase in attendances is still pretty impressive, especially when you consider they're just starting out. And I love that they're focusing on making the fan experience better, not just relying on gimmicks like free popcorn for kids 🍿😂.

I'm curious to see how it all unfolds though – will they be able to sustain this growth and make women's football a more mainstream thing in Switzerland? Only time (and maybe some clever marketing strategies 😉) will tell!

😊 The fact that attendance figures for Swiss Women's Super League matches have increased by 62% this season is a massive boost! I mean, it's not as crazy as England's Women's Super League after Euro 2022, but still, 787 fans per match is no joke 🤯. Grasshopper and Thun are killing it, with attendance numbers doubling and tripling respectively! 💥 And let's be real, 10,025 fans for that Canada game was a huge deal 🎉. I think the key to long-term sustainability is not just about flashy gimmicks but actually investing in the fan experience 🤝. FSF is doing the right thing by exploring ways to enhance it during World Cup qualifiers 👍. Fingers crossed this momentum keeps building and Swiss women's football becomes a staple in the country! 💪

OMG I'm so stoked for Switzerland! 🤩 Their Women's European Championship was AMAZING!!! 💪 I love how they're focusing on long-term sustainability instead of just relying on gimmicks. Free popcorn for kids is cool and all, but let's be real, it's not going to solve the problem. 😂 Fabian Sanginés is totally right! We need to see some serious growth in attendances and fan interest if we want Swiss women's football to really take off!

I'm also SO happy for Grasshopper, Thun, and Basel - they're killing it on the field and the attendance numbers are proof of that! 🏆 787 fans per match is nothing to sneeze at, especially considering last year's average was only 455. That's a major increase!

10,025 fans at their game against Canada? WOWZA! 😍 That's amazing for Switzerland and it shows the team is really building momentum. I'm all about supporting our Swiss women's football team - let's keep cheering them on and see where this journey takes us! 🎉🇨🇭
