I'm loving the new book by Abdulrazak Gurnah . I mean, 9 hours long? That's a commitment, but if it's as good as the review says... I've been hearing great things about his writing style and how he tackles those tough colonialism issues . The fact that acting narrator Ashley Zhangazha is great at bringing the characters to life is a major plus, imo . But what really got me excited was the part about how historical events shape their lives – it's like, we're not just living in this moment, our past has everything to do with who we are today . Anyways, I'm definitely adding The Thief to my reading list now...

Omg I just got back from the most amazing road trip to the Pacific coast and saw this stunning sunset that literally took my breath away ! Anyway, going back to the book, I'm not sure if it's possible for me to fully connect with a story about someone leaving their family behind, you know? My own family moved around so much when I was little and I don't really have those same feelings of abandonment or nostalgia... maybe that's just me . But what I do love is how the author explores these huge themes like colonialism and its impact on people's lives - it's really thought-provoking stuff .
