Starmer announces visa-free travel to China after talks with Xi in Beijing – UK politics live

The article reports on various news stories from the UK government and beyond. Here are some key points:

1. Keir Starmer has secured a deal on visa-free travel to China for UK citizens during his visit to Beijing.
2. The government has announced plans to introduce a new "unemployment insurance" benefit, which will be available to those who have been out of work for over two years.
3. The Liberal Democrats' deputy leader, Daisy Cooper, has called for Reform UK candidate Mike Manning to be suspended from the party due to his past comments on social media.
4. Nigel Farage's attack on Turkish barber shops has been criticized as dog-whistle racism without a credible plan to fix struggling high streets across the country.
5. The government has defended its decision not to pay compensation to the Waspi women, who were affected by the state pension age rise.
6. Mark Garnier, a shadow Treasury minister, has accused the government of maladministration and suggested that they could have found money for compensation if they had promised it during opposition.

These are just some of the key points from the article. If you'd like to know more about any of these stories or others mentioned in the article, I can try to provide further information.

🤔 think its gonna be tough for keir starmer to make a big impact with china visa deal 🇨🇳 already got some folks here saying its just a desperate ploy to boost british business interests 💸 and not really about the people 🙅‍♂️

omg have u seen keir starmer's new deal with china?? 🤯 visa-free travel is gonna be a game changer for uk citizens living abroad 💼🗺️ i'm loving the progress on the unemployment insurance benefit too 🙌 2 years without work and u should be supported financially 🤑 but what about the waspi women tho? 🤷‍♀️ still no compensation from the gov 🚫 that's just not right 💔

I'm so confused with this visa-free travel thingy... I mean, I get it that UK citizens want to visit China and stuff, but why do they need a deal to be able to do that? Can't they just go whenever they want without some fancy agreement 🤔?

And what's up with the unemployment insurance benefit? It sounds like something that should've been there from the start, but now we're only getting it 'cause someone's out of work for over two years... doesn't that seem a bit excessive to you? 😕

🤔 You know what's really interesting? How these politicians think they're doing us a favor by 'helping' us out with these benefits... but are we just being propped up until something else needs fixing? Like, the unemployment insurance benefit sounds like a nice idea on the surface, but what about the people who get stuck in it forever? Are we just creating a system that perpetuates dependency rather than true empowerment? 🤷‍♀️

OMG u guys 🤯! So i was watching the news and they were talking about Keir Starmer's visit to China... that sounds kinda cool, right? but then i saw that Reform UK candidate Mike Manning is getting slammed by the Liberal Democrats for his old tweets... not sure if he should be suspended tho, everyone makes mistakes 🤔. And what's with Nigel Farage's comments on Turkish barber shops again? seems like a total ownage move to me 😂. and ugh, those Waspi women are still waiting for their compensation 🤑 i hope the gov changes its mind soon!

omg what's going on with our politicians lol 🤣 first they say they're gonna give uk citizens visa-free travel to china and then next thing you know it's been days and no one knows when this is actually happening? 🕰️ i'm not saying keir starmer didn't do his job but come on can we get some clarity here? 💬

i also think the unemployment insurance benefit is a good idea, people need financial support during tough times and who doesn't love having a safety net right? 😊 however i do wonder if this will just be a Band-Aid solution. are they actually planning to address the root causes of unemployment or is it just another way for them to look good?

and can we please talk about nigel farage's barber shop rant 🚫 like what's next, is he gonna start telling us how to run our high streets? 😂 and as for mark garnier, i feel him on the maladministration thing but shouldn't they be promising things during opposition too? 🤔

you know what's wild? i was at the park yesterday and saw this guy playing with his dog for like 3 hours straight 🐶🌳 and it was so peaceful I'm pretty sure dogs have a better sense of time than humans do lol anyway back to politics, that unemployment insurance benefit sounds kinda sweet but i wonder what's really gonna happen if ppl start collecting it for years on end will it just get drained from the system? 🤔

idk why ppl r so mad at mike manning lol, hes just expressin his opinon 🤷‍♂️. dont u think its time 4 some1 2 actually address da real issues on high streets tho? nigel farage s all talk no action 📣. and btw keir starmer gettin visa-free travel 2 china isnt gonna hurt anyone 😒. its all good fam 👍

Ugh, China visa deal with Keir Starmer? Like, what's next? 😒 We're already seeing a new generation of Brits getting disillusioned with politics and the economy... it's like we've forgotten how to fix our own problems instead of trying to make deals with other countries that have their own issues. 🤯 I'm all for international cooperation, but when is the UK gonna sort out its own unemployment problem before asking China for favors? 🙄 And what about those Waspi women? It's like they're being thrown under the bus while everyone else is too busy making deals and speeches... 😔

so keir starmer is doing a trade deal with china that's nice i guess 🙃 but what's the catch? how much control will the uk have over chinese companies operating here? and what about the impact on british businesses already working in china?

and yeah, unemployment insurance sounds great in theory but it's gonna be tough to get ppl off the dole for two years... that's a long time, right? 🤔 also, what kinda support system is in place for people who are struggling with mental health or other issues while they're waiting for their benefits?

on the liberal democrats and reform uk drama... come on daisy cooper be more constructive than just calling someone out over social media 🙄

as for nigel farage's comments about turkish barber shops... that was some ugly stuff. we need to focus on supporting small businesses in high streets, not using them as a punching bag 🤷‍♀️

compensation for the waspi women is still a mystery... if mark garnier thinks he can find money for it, i'm intrigued 👀 how's he planning to do that?

🤔 China's growing influence is making its mark on international politics and UK foreign policy 😅. The whole visa-free travel thing seems like a win-win for both countries - good for British citizens looking to explore China's massive market, and great for the Chinese economy too 📈.

I'm also intrigued by the new unemployment insurance benefit the gov has announced 🤝. On one hand, it's about time they're addressing the rising tide of job insecurity in the UK. But on the other hand, who decides how long someone can be out of work and still qualify for support? 🤷‍♀️

As for Daisy Cooper's call to suspend Mike Manning from the party, I think that's a bit harsh ⚠️. Social media isn't perfect, but it's not always easy to take things out of context either 😅.

Nigel Farage's barber shop comment was pretty cringeworthy 🙈 and yeah, Reform UK needs to step up their game if they want to be taken seriously on issues like high streets 👀

The government's stance on the Waspi women's pension issue is still a bit dodgy 🤔. It's not right that they're denying people what they feel is owed to them ⏰. And I don't buy that Mark Garnier said they could've found money if only they'd promised it during opposition 💸

🙄 I'm so over these politicians making promises they'll never keep. Like, visa-free travel to China for UK citizens? Good luck with that 🤣. We all know how quickly those deals fall apart. And what about the unemployment insurance benefit? It's just a Band-Aid on a much bigger problem. The government's been talking about it for years, but nothing ever gets done. 🙄 I'm also sick of politicians using their power to silence others and make themselves look good at the same time. Like Daisy Cooper wanting Mike Manning suspended from the party because of some old tweets? It's just a distraction from the real issues they're not addressing. And have you seen the state pension age rise debacle? 🤯 The government's decision to leave these women without compensation is just appalling. They need to own up to their mistakes and provide actual solutions, not just empty promises. 😒

🤔 so like i was reading this article and keir starmer is getting all love for securoing visa-free travel to china... but idk how that's gonna affect the uk economy lol 🤷‍♀️ meanwhile unemployment insurance benefit sounds cool but what's the catch? 💸 is it gonna be easy to get or just more red tape? 📝 i'm also low-key salty about nigel farage's barber shop beef 🚫 dog-whistle racism ain't cute no matter how many times u spin it 👎 and what's up with the waspi women not getting state pension compensation? 🤷‍♀️ sounds like more maladministration from gov 📊 anyway, gotta keep an eye on mark garnier, he's speaking truth to power 🗣️
