Prospect Lefferts Gardens day care shut amid 'horrific' child abuse allegations

Abuse Scandal Rocks Brooklyn Daycare as City Launches Investigation

The Eva Crèche Day Care center in Prospect Lefferts Gardens has been shut down amid horrific allegations of child abuse and neglect, leaving dozens of families without a safe haven for their children. The daycare, which was licensed to care for 10 kids but reportedly had over 14 on site at one point, saw its license revoked after several parents came forward with disturbing videos showing their children being physically mistreated.

The whistleblower, an employee who took the videos, reported the incidents to city officials and is currently under investigation. The videos, taken between September and October last year, show an employee grabbing a child by the clothing and tossing them around, as well as workers pointing brooms at kids in high chairs and leaving toddlers unattended in bathrooms.

Parents claim that the daycare enrolled their children without permission and even took them on unauthorized outings, including what appeared to be a "neighborhood walk" - a daily activity tracked on an app used by daycares. The center's owner, Shareese Dukes, has denied any wrongdoing, saying she cooperated with the investigation and fired the employee accused of neglect.

However, city officials say the allegations are "horrific and unacceptable" and have vowed to support the ongoing investigation. They also claim that the daycare will face penalties if it attempts to reopen under a new name or license.

The scandal has left many parents shaken, including Councilmember Crystal Hudson, who says she's "heartbroken" by the situation. "When we send our kids to day care, we don't expect these things to happen," she said.

While the daycare had some minor violations in the past, city officials say they were unaware of the serious issues at hand. Inspectors found no indication of problems during routine visits, and the center was licensed with a good standing until its closure earlier this month.

🚨 I'm not surprised to see another daycare scandal rock Brooklyn - it's like a never-ending nightmare for parents trying to leave their kids in someone else's care 😩. The fact that the owner, Shareese Dukes, is denying any wrongdoing while the employee accused of neglect is under investigation just doesn't add up 🙄. I mean, come on, if you're going to enroll your kids without permission and take them on unauthorized outings, don't expect parents to trust you completely 💔.

And what's with the app tracking thing? That's just creepy 🤯. It sounds like the daycare was more interested in monitoring their activities than actually providing care and support for those little ones 👶.

The city needs to get its act together and make sure these daycares are held accountable for their actions 💪. Can't we trust that they're doing what's best for our kids? 🤷‍♀️

Ugh, can u even imagine putting ur kids in a place like that?! 😱 I'm literally shaking thinking about all those innocent babies going through what they did... my heart goes out to those families who lost their trust in the system 🤕. And the whistleblower? They're kinda heroes, imo 💪. I mean, if they wouldn't have come forward, we'd still be dealing with this crap. The app thing is wild too, like how they could just track these kids' activities and not even care... it's just gross. I hope Shareese Dukes gets her license revoked for good, she sounds super shady 🤑. Councilmember Hudson is right, though, when u send ur kid to daycare, u expect them to be safe and happy, not traumatized 🤷‍♀️. This is a total fail on the city's part, but at least they're taking it seriously... fingers crossed this place never opens again 💯

🚨 Can we talk about how this scandal highlights the need for better oversight in our childcare system? I mean, it's clear that there were some major red flags being ignored by city officials. Like, who gets away with having 14 kids in a facility licensed for 10? It's not just a matter of one bad apple, it's a systemic issue that needs to be addressed.

And what about Shareese Dukes, the owner? She claims she cooperated with the investigation, but I'm not buying it. Why would you try to hide something like this and then claim you're being cooperative? It's all about spin and PR, folks.

This is a perfect example of how our systems can fail us when we least expect them to. We need to be holding these institutions accountable and making sure that our kids are safe. The fact that Councilmember Hudson is "heartbroken" by the situation is exactly what should be happening – she's supposed to be advocating for her constituents' interests, not just spewing emotions.

This scandal needs to lead to real change, not just a Band-Aid solution. We need to create a culture where whistleblowers feel empowered to speak out and report wrongdoing without fear of retaliation. Anything less is just kicking the can down the road.

omg this is so messed up 🤯 how can you just shut down an entire daycare without giving families even a chance to say goodbye? my niece goes to one of those places for after-school program and i'm like super careful about who she trusts lol now im freaking out thinking what if this was her place

Ugh 🤯, can you believe what's going on here?! Like, I'm not even sure where to start. Okay, so first off, shut down the whole place already! 🚫 The fact that they had 14 kids in a facility licensed for 10 is just crazy. And those videos? No words... 😱 It's like, how do you even get away with stuff like this?! And now parents are left scrambling to find new places for their little ones.

And what's up with the employee who took the videos? Are they being protected or not? 🤔 I mean, they're the one who came forward and risked everything. It's kinda suspicious that city officials are saying they'll support the investigation but also vowing to punish them if they reopen under a new name... 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, this whole situation is just too much.

🚨 This is just so messed up 🤯... I mean, how can you have a daycare that's basically just a breeding ground for abuse? 🙈 The fact that they were able to get away with it for so long is disgusting... and the owners are denying everything? 😒 That's not good enough, share the blame! 💔 Parents need to be more vigilant too, do your research before entrusting your kid to some strangers. I'm so sorry for all those families who got screwed over by this nightmare 🤕

🤕 This is absolutely gut-wrenching - the level of depravity shown by some daycare staff is simply appalling. The fact that an employee felt comfortable enough to record videos without consent is a red flag, and it's unconscionable that others were aware of these issues but chose not to act on them.

It's also inexcusable that the center was able to operate under multiple licenses while still committing such egregious acts of neglect. The city's lax oversight is clearly the problem here, as evidenced by the routine visits where inspectors failed to notice anything amiss.

The fact that some parents claim the daycare enrolled their kids without permission or took them on unauthorized outings raises serious questions about who was responsible for monitoring these activities. The owner's claims of cooperation with the investigation are hard to take at face value given the severity of the allegations.

This scandal highlights the need for more robust oversight and accountability in childcare services, especially in a city as large and diverse as New York. Anything less is unacceptable 🚫💔

🤕 this is so disturbing, a safe space for kids turned out to be a nightmare... i mean, how can someone just grab a child by the clothes and toss them around? 🚫 it's not okay, period. i'm glad city officials are taking action, but what about all the families who have been affected already? 💔 they need support, not just punishment for the center. and what's with the employee who took those videos, why didn't they speak out sooner? 🤷‍♀️ investigation is ongoing, let's hope justice is served.

the thing that gets me is how many times do we have to see this before we take action? 😩 like, what's it gonna take for us to get our act together as a society? these are kids we're talking about, not just statistics or news stories. 💕

🤯 I'm totally gutted to hear about what's going on at Eva Crèche Day Care. Like, how can people just be so cruel to little kids? 🤕 The videos that came out are literally horrific – it's unbelievable that some adult would do that to a child. And the fact that they enrolled their kids without permission and took them on unauthorized outings is just mental. I mean, what kind of daycare does that? 🚫

I think the city needs to take this super seriously and make sure these people are held accountable. Like, if they're found guilty, they should face some serious consequences – not just a slap on the wrist. The parents who are affected by this are already so traumatized, it's not fair that they have to deal with all this stress too.

I'm also wondering how this could have happened in the first place. Like, did no one notice anything? Was anyone paying attention to what was going on at the daycare? It just seems like there should be some way for these issues to get reported and addressed before things escalate to abuse and neglect. 🤔

🤕👶😱 I'm so sad about this... a daycare is supposed to be a safe space for kids, not a place where they get hurt 🤕. The videos are just horrific, and the fact that staff were able to do these things without anyone noticing is just mind-blowing 😳.

I made a quick diagram to try and visualize what's going on:

🤕 this is so sad... i cant even imagine how those kids must be feeling... 🌧️
i feel bad for the parents too, they trusted that daycare to care for their little ones... 🤝
the employee who took the videos should get a big reward for coming forward and speaking up 💪
but what really gets me is that some of these violations were happening under the radar... 🎉 inspectors just didnt know something was off until it was too late 🕰️
i hope the owner doesnt try to reopen or rebrand, thats just gonna cover it up again 🚫
