Newsom says Davos appearance was canceled under pressure from Trump

California Governor Gavin Newsom's appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos has been cancelled due to pressure from the Trump administration. According to Newsom's office, he had been invited to participate in a fireside chat with Fortune magazine after President Trump's address, but USA House, which is hosting the event, denied him entry under pressure from the White House and State Department.

Newsom took to social media to express his disappointment, saying "How weak and pathetic do you have to be to be this scared of a fireside chat?" He had planned to use the opportunity to present California as a counterbalance to Trump's policies. The cancellation comes after Newsom has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, and it appears that the White House is trying to silence him.

The incident has raised eyebrows among European allies who are often criticized by Newsom for failing to sufficiently stand up to Trump. Newsom told reporters in Davos that he would have brought "knee pads" for world leaders if they were as complicit as those rolling over to Trump's demands. He also described Trump as a "T rex" and said there is no diplomacy with him.

The White House has responded by targeting Newsom, with Anna Kelly using his nickname "Newscum". The US Department of State did not respond to a request for comment.
