Man facing murder charge accused of causing beloved boat captain to fall into Lake Michigan

A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the suspicious drowning death of a beloved boat captain, Nabil Abzal, 63, who fell into Lake Michigan at DuSable Harbor over Labor Day weekend. The suspect, Alexis Trader, was already behind bars on unrelated charges when he was formally accused of Abzal's death.

According to prosecutors, Trader allegedly shoved Abzal into a gate at the harbor, causing a head injury that ultimately led to his death by drowning. The manner of Abzal's death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Video footage from the scene shows Trader and two women near the boat around 2:45 am on August 30th. A person dressed in all black, later identified as Trader, opens the gate for the women to leave the vessel. Abzal is seen waking up at this time, only to be confronted by Trader and another man, leading to a violent altercation.

Prosecutors claim that Trader punched Abzal, causing him to fall into the lake after being pushed towards the metal gate. However, Trader's defense team disputes this account, arguing that there were no witnesses to witness the alleged physical assault and that their client assisted in the rescue efforts after Abzal fell into the water.

Trader has a history of violent crimes, including burglaries and armed robbery convictions from 2008 to 2023. His lawyer maintains that his client is a changed person and has been cooperative with authorities.

The case remains under investigation, but Trader's next court date is set for February 25. The family of the deceased captain is still reeling from the news, with Abzal's wife describing her husband's death as "surreal" and expressing shock at the loss.

Man, this whole thing is like a dark mirror to our own reflections. I mean, think about it, we all have that one person in our lives who knows our secrets, our fears, and our weaknesses. For some people, that's a loving partner or family member, while for others, it's a stranger who knows just how to push your buttons.

The question is, when does someone become so desperate that they cross that line? Was it really necessary for Trader to take out his frustrations on Abzal like that? And what about the women in black who were part of this whole thing - were they somehow caught up in it, or did they just walk away?

This whole case is a reminder that we all have the capacity for both good and evil. It's how we choose to act when our backs are against the wall that really matters. So let's take a moment to reflect on our own actions, and think about what would happen if we were in someone else's shoes. Would we be pushed over the edge? πŸ€”πŸ’

omg like i cant even right now 🀯 I'm so shocked and saddened by this news... my heart goes out to Nabil's family its just not fair that he had to go through this πŸ˜” i was actually planning to take a trip on Lake Michigan over Labor Day weekend too, its like the universe is playing these kinds of cruel jokes on us 🌊 Alexis Trader's history of violent crimes is so concerning how could someone with all those convictions commit something as heinous as this? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I mean idk if he's guilty or not but like what was going through his mind that night? 😱

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one 🀯... A guy gets pushed into a lake by someone who had a history of violent crimes, and now he's charged with murder? Like, what's the logic behind that? πŸ™„ The video footage doesn't even show the alleged shove happening... it just shows a guy opening a gate for some women to leave. And Abzal wakes up at this time and then gets into an altercation? Sounds like a setup to me 😏. And let's not forget, Trader was already behind bars on other charges when he got charged with this one... seems fishy 🐟. Can we get more evidence before we start putting lives in danger? πŸ’”

man... this is just crazy 😱 Alexis Trader has a history of violent crimes but i'm not surprised to hear that about him. you can't change who you are overnight, right? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ the fact that his defense team is trying to spin this whole thing and make it seem like he helped with the rescue is just weird. and abzal's wife just described her husband's death as surreal... i can imagine, losing someone like that must be a nightmare 😩

i'm also wondering why trader was already behind bars on unrelated charges when this happened? did the police not have anything to hold him for at first? πŸ€” and what about those two women in black who were near the boat? are they going to come forward as witnesses or stay under the radar? so many questions...

omg this is so sad πŸ€• i cant even imagine what his fam must be going thru... like how could some1 do that to a man who was just tryin to enjoy the lake with his family? and theres all these questions about whats really goin on here, wut happened before abzal fell in? did trader or those 2 women even care bout him at first? πŸ€”

OMG, this is getting CRAZY 🀯! I mean, can you even believe a guy would do that to an old man? 😱 Like what were they thinking?! Trader's history of violent crimes is wild, but murder over a head injury? That's just on another level πŸ’€. The fact that he pushed Abzal into the gate and then helped with the rescue afterwards is just... I don't even know how to process that 🀯. The family's still trying to come to terms with what happened, and it's clear this case is gonna be a wild ride πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ. February 25 can't come soon enough πŸ’₯

🀯🌊😱 that's so sad πŸ˜” about Nabil Abzal he was a beloved boat captain and his life was cut short by this crazy guy 🚫πŸ’ͺ meanwhile Alexis Trader has a long history of violent crimes πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ it's like they say you can't escape your past πŸ˜’ but I hope justice is served in this case βš–οΈπŸ’₯ the family of the deceased deserves closure πŸ’”πŸ™

πŸ˜” This is just getting out of hand... Like what's gonna happen to people like Trader? He's got a long rap sheet already, but this just takes it to a whole new level. I mean, you're already doing time for other stuff and then suddenly you're accused of murder too? 🀯 How are we supposed to believe he didn't do it just 'cause his lawyer says so? πŸ™„

And on the other hand, I feel bad for the family... Losing someone like that is just devastating. Abzal was only 63, what a shame. It's crazy how things can go from one day to the next, you know? One minute he's out there with his boat, and the next he's gone. πŸ’”

🀯 Can you believe what this dude did?! Like, I'm not surprised he had a history of violent crimes, but to take out someone in broad daylight... that's just crazy! 😱 I mean, Abzal was like the ultimate hero, saving lives on those boats and now he's gone. It's just heartbreaking for his family πŸ€•. And what's with the lack of witnesses? That's a huge piece of evidence missing from this case 🚨. The defense team trying to spin it as the victim falling in after being pushed... not buying it, fam πŸ˜’.

πŸ€” This whole thing just doesn't add up... I mean, how did no one see this guy shove that boat captain into the lake? 🌊 Video footage shows a person in black opening the gate for two women to leave, but then Abzal wakes up and gets pushed into the water. It's like they're trying to make it look like an accident, but we all know how that turns out... πŸ˜’ What really happened that night at DuSable Harbor? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
