Ecuador files formal complaint after ICE agent attempts "incursion" at Minneapolis embassy

Ecuador Takes Swipe at US Immigration Agent's "Incursion" at Minneapolis Embassy

In a tense standoff, Ecuador has formally protested after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer attempted to breach the security of its consulate in Minneapolis. The bizarre incident was captured on camera, with eyewitnesses describing the agent's brazen behavior.

According to footage released online, the ICE officer, armed with a sense of authority that seemed misplaced, tried to force his way into the consulate building. When confronted by a staffer, he responded menacingly, saying "If you touch me, I will grab you" before eventually backing down. The consul's office had already deemed the situation too intense and prevented the agent from entering.

Ecuador has taken swift action, labeling the incident as an "attempted incursion by ICE agents." In a statement, Foreign Ministry officials emphasized that the consulate was effectively protected, with Ecuadorian citizens safe within. However, this did little to quell tensions between the two nations.

In the aftermath of the incident, the US Embassy in Quito has yet to issue an official response or comment on the matter. Meanwhile, ICE officials remain noticeably silent.

The controversy raises questions about the limits of US immigration enforcement at foreign embassies and consulates. What's clear is that Ecuador will not tolerate such overreach from American authorities.

This is so crazy! 🤯 I mean, who tries to force their way into a consulate building? It sounds like something out of a bad movie. The ICE officer was totally outta line, you know? 😡 Like, what's next, trying to serve a warrant on the Queen of England or something? The fact that he had a gun and said he'd grab the staffer if they touched him... talk about overkill! 😂 I can see why Ecuador is all bent outta shape. And the US Embassy just ignoring it? Not cool, bro. 🤷‍♂️ This whole thing just highlights how messed up our immigration system is. We gotta make sure our consulates are safe zones for people from other countries, not places where ICE agents can come in and cause a ruckus. 🙅‍♂️

omg this is totally on point i mean come on an ice officer thinkin they can just waltz into someones embassy like that? 🤯 what if there were actual fugitives or somethin? or a diplomat in distress? wouldn't want no random us agent causin a scene and makin everyone uncomfortable

and whats with the "i will grab you" threat? tryin to intimidate staff? ice needs to get its act together and understand that diplomacy is all about respect and decorum not playin hardball

anyway i gotta give credit to ecuador for standin up for themselves and their citizens. we should always prioritize sovereignty and national security

omg what was this guy thinking 😱 trying to storm an embassy like he owns the place? i mean, i get it, ICE has its issues but come on! 🤯 that "i'll grab you" threat was super sketchy too 🚨 anyway, it's not just about Ecuador, this kinda behavior makes a bad impression for the US and its immigration system. what's the point of having these agents if they're gonna disrespect foreign soil? 🌎 we need more accountability on both sides, can't let diplomacy go down like this 💔

this is just getting outta hand 🚨🇪🇨... can't believe some ICE agent thinks they can just waltz into a consulate and start causing trouble. newsflash: embassies are for diplomats, not law enforcement 🕵️‍♂️. what's next? showing up at the british embassy with a warrant? 🤔 it's like, we get it, someone needs to follow protocol, but do you have to be so aggressive? 😒

I mean, what's with this latest development? The way the ICE officer just stormed into that embassy in Minneapolis like he owned the place... it's just crazy 🤯. I remember when I was younger, there were times when diplomats would get a bit testy with their colleagues from other countries, but at least they didn't resort to threats and intimidation. Now it feels like anyone can just waltz into an embassy and start causing trouble. And what really gets me is that the US Embassy in Quito isn't even commenting on this... usually when something goes down, there's a statement or two coming out. But I guess in today's world, you never know when someone's gonna pull a stunt like this 🤷‍♂️. It just makes you wonder what other surprises we've got in store, don't it? 😬

man this is getting intense 🤯 u gotta wonder what was goin on in that guy's head thinkin he can just barge into an embassy like that? ice agents r supposed to be doin a job not causin drama 😒 and now ecuador's all up in arms about it what's next? other countries startin to crack down on american diplomats too? 🤔 u gotta feel for the ecuadorians tho, those guys were just tryin to keep their consulate safe

omg can u beleev this?? an ice officer trying to force his way into ecuadors consulate in minneapolis?? 🤯🇺🇸🇪🇨 that guy was so brave lol no but seriously tho, what is wrong with america?? 😂 how can they just send their agents to foreign embassies like its no big deal? 🙄 especially when it involves ecuador and americans have been super harsh on each other in the past... this is getting out of hand 🤯🚫

OMG this is wild 🤯 how can they just barge into a diplomat's office? like what's next, them showing up at our embassy in London or somethin'?! 😂 seriously though, US ICE gotta get their act together, this is some crazy behavior right here. Ecuador's got every right to be mad and I'm low-key impressed they didn't let it escalate further. Can you imagine if they'd actually grabbed that staff? 🤯 ice needs to take a chill pill or some kinda training...

I don't think it's cool that an ICE agent tried to force his way into the Ecuador consulate, but at the same time, I kinda get why they did it... I mean, if someone's gonna break in, they should probably know what they're doing, right? But then again, if it was really necessary, shouldn't there be better ways to resolve the situation? 🤔 And what's with Ecuador's reaction – are they just looking for a fight or is this about protecting their citizens and their country's sovereignty?

I'm also kinda curious why the US Embassy in Quito hasn't said anything about it yet... is that because they're trying to stay out of trouble or is there something more going on? 🤷‍♂️ And what does all this mean for future diplomatic relations between Ecuador and the US? It's definitely not a great look for either side, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out...

omg u guys think iceman came to the wrong address lol what was he even thinking? i mean, u gotta respect the consulate, its like, their home too 🤣 i'm all for keeping borders safe but like, dont try to make a scene in someone else's turf, ya feel? i wonder if ice is still getting his morning coffee, cuz that seemed like a major wake-up call 😂 anyway, lets hope this whole thing blows over and both countries can just chill out
