Spotify Raises Prices in U.K. on Individual, Family and Duo Plans

Spotify has hiked prices in the UK, marking its second price hike in approximately 18 months. The premium individual plan will now cost £12.99 ($17.24), up from £11.99 ($15.91). Family plans have also increased to £21.99 ($29.18) from £19.99 ($26.53). Meanwhile, the Duo plan has risen to £17.99 ($23.87) from £16.99 ($22.55).

The price increases are attributed to Spotify's revenue growth, which saw a 16% increase in subscription revenue during its second quarter earnings call. CFO Christian Luiga stated that gains in subscribers drove this revenue growth.

This move is not unique to the UK; similar price hikes have been implemented in France and Germany, both of which are significant music markets. The US, Spotify's largest market, could also be next on the list, with numerous analysts predicting a price hike by early 2026.

OMG, like I cant even believe theyre doing this 🤯... I mean I get it, they did awesome with that Taylor Swift album re-release and their Discover Weekly playlist is still on point 💫, but £12.99 for premium?! That's like, way too much dough 💸! I remember when I got the Spotify premium back in 2020 for $9.99 a month... now its almost double 🙄. And what about all those students and low-income people who rely on it to stream their fave tunes? Are they just gonna get left behind? 😬 I'm not saying its bad or anything, but come on Spotify, be more considerate of your users, right? 🤗

Ugh I'm so done with these price hikes 🤯! My kid is already on premium and now it's going to cost even more? Like, what's next? Is Spotify just gonna start charging us for air? 😂 Seriously though, £12.99 for a year?! That's like eating out at an expensive restaurant every day for a whole year...not happening 🍴. And don't even get me started on the family plan...that's just ridiculous 💸. I swear, it feels like they're just gonna keep raising prices until we all just give up and cancel our subscriptions 😩. Anyone else feeling this frustration?

📈💸 I'm kinda surprised they're doing this now, considering how saturated the music streaming market is 🎶. Like, don't get me wrong, revenue growth is awesome and all, but £12.99 for premium? It's already a pretty penny! 🤑 And what about people on tighter budgets? The UK has got to be one of the most expensive places in Europe when it comes to music streaming... anyway, I guess this just means we'll see even more price hikes coming our way 👀💸

Stats:
- Spotify's revenue growth: 16% YoY
- Premium plan increase: £1.00
- Family plan increase: £2.00
- Duo plan increase: £1.32

Here's a rough breakdown of how much the premium plan costs now compared to when it launched in the UK:

£11.99 (2015) vs £12.99 (£7.00 increase)
£13.99 (2020) vs £17.24 (£3.25 increase)

📊 Let me know what you guys think about this price hike!

🤔 I'm kinda surprised about this one... I mean, £12.99 for premium is still pretty affordable if you ask me 🤑. I think they should've considered it from the user's perspective tho... we're already shelling out money for streaming services like Apple Music & TikTok, might as well get that extra sound quality & features on Spotify too 💻. But hey, 16% revenue growth is no joke! Guess we'll just have to shell out a bit more cash to keep those playlists fresh 🔥🎶

🤔 Spotify's decision to increase prices in the UK is a paradigmatic example of how businesses adjust their pricing strategies in response to revenue growth 📈. With a 16% increase in subscription revenue, it's evident that Spotify's value proposition has resonated with its users, leading to an uptick in demand 💼. However, for consumers who have been accustomed to the lower price points, this sudden change might be jarring 😬.

It's worth noting that these price hikes mirror similar trends observed in France and Germany, both of which are crucial music markets 🎵. Given Spotify's substantial presence in the US market as well, a potential price hike by early 2026 seems plausible 🔁. As consumers become increasingly accustomed to streaming services, businesses will continue to navigate this complex landscape to maximize revenue while maintaining user loyalty 📊.

🤑 just great, another reason for people to switch to those free music streaming services like YouTube Music or Deezer 📺💻. spotify was already getting too expensive for most people... now they're gonna jack up prices even more? 😒. I'm not surprised though, 16% revenue growth is a big deal and i guess it's to be expected from a popular service like spotify. still, this means we'll all have to break out our wallets a bit more 💸.

OMG, like seriously? another price hike from Spotify 🤑! I mean, I get it, they want to keep up with their revenue growth and all that jazz 💸, but £12.99 for individual plans? That's just crazy expensive 😂. And don't even get me started on the family plans - £21.99 is, like, a whole lot of cash 🤑. I swear, Spotify is pricing out its own users at this point 🤦‍♀️.

And what's up with these price hikes being rolled out one after another? First it was the UK, then France and Germany... where's the consistency? 😒 It feels like they're just trying to squeeze every last penny from their subscribers 💸. I'm not surprised the US is next on the list - those analysts are probably right 📊. Next thing you know, we'll be paying £20 a month for Spotify Premium 🤑. No thanks! 👎

I'm surprised they're doing this again! Like, I get it, revenue growth is great but £12.99 for premium?! It's already pretty pricey. I remember when my mates and I were listening to Spotify all day, every day, back in 2018, and we could get the premium plan for like £9.99. Now it feels like they're nickel-and-diming us 😒. And what's up with the US? If they do hike prices there, it'll be a total shockwave! I hope they don't price out regular folks who just wanna listen to their fave tunes on the go 📊🎶

Wow, I'm surprised they're going up again so soon 🤑 Interesting that their revenue growth is driving these increases, but £12.99 for the premium plan feels like a lot to me 💸

omg u guys I know its not the most exciting news but think about it - spotify is doing so well financially lol they're basically a unicorn now 🦄💸 and with that success comes the ability to upgrade their service and pay their artists better 😊. i mean, 16% increase in subscription revenue is no joke! 💥 but at the same time I feel like we should be grateful for all the amazing music we get to stream for a decent price 🎵💕. lets just be real, the prices might not be the cheapest anymore but we got our Spotify Premium and that's all that matters, right? 😊👍

🤯 i cant believe spotify is doing this again!!! i know theyre making bank but £12.99 for premium individual plan is just too much!! my family and i were already paying way more than we wanted to 😩 its like theyre taking advantage of loyal customers whove been with them since day 1 🙄 anyway, i guess its not all bad news... their revenue growth is pretty impressive! 16% increase in subscription revenue is no joke 💸 but still, i wish theyd consider the impact on us regular joe's 🤷‍♀️

🤯 just heard about Spotify's price hike in the UK and I'm not loving it 🙅‍♂️. They're already charging more than Apple Music and Amazon Music, now they're upping the ante again 💸. 16% revenue growth is cool and all 📈, but do we really need another price jump? 🤔. I mean, people are still going to listen to music regardless of the price tag 🎵. Maybe they could've invested that extra cash into improving their Discover Weekly playlist 🔄 or expanding their free tier? 🤷‍♂️. Anyway, hope UK subscribers aren't too disappointed 😐. Anyone else feeling the pinch? 💸😩 #SpotifyPriceHike #MusicSubscriptionStruggles

ugh 🤦‍♀️ just heard the news about spotify's price hike 😒 now i gotta shell out more cash 💸 every month 👀 £12.99 is still way too much for me 🙅‍♂️ especially when i'm on a tight budget 🤑 16% revenue growth tho 📈 that's some sick math skills 💡 but honestly who's got the $$$ to keep up with these price hikes 😩

ugh, another one 🤯... just when you think everything is good, they go and raise prices again! £12.99 for premium? no thanks 💸 I get that Spotify's making bank, but do we really need to break the bank too? i'm already feeling the pinch from inflation... this is gonna be a tough one for some people 🤕

I mean, £12.99 for premium individual plan is like, what's the point? 🤔 Can't they just make it free or something? I know some people might say it's worth it for all the features and stuff, but honestly, I've got better music streaming apps that don't suck... oh wait, Spotify has ads on them lol. Anywayz, this price hike is gonna affect a lot of peeps, especially students and young adults who are already living on a tight budget 🤑. Maybe they should just give some discounts to loyal customers or something? 🤷‍♂️

Spotify's price hike is like, totally symbolic of the state of the economy, you feel? 🤑 I mean, when the big players in the industry are increasing prices left and right, it's gotta be affecting consumers, right? 😕 And now we're seeing this ripple effect in other markets like France and Germany...it's like a domino effect. 🤯

And let's talk about revenue growth - 16% increase in subscription revenue is huge! 💸 It's like Spotify's got it figured out, but at what cost? The average consumer is just trying to make ends meet, you know? 🤑 How are people supposed to keep up with these rising prices?

This is where the whole " trickle-down" theory comes into play...if Spotify can just afford to increase its prices, why can't the government do the same for the general public? 🤔 It's all about priorities, I suppose. 👀

🤔 I'm kinda bummed about this one. I get that companies gotta make a buck, but £12.99 for premium is still pretty steep. I mean, I love Spotify too 🎵, but not at the cost of breaking the bank every month. It's already pricey compared to other streaming services like Apple Music or Tidal. And with the rise of free alternatives like YouTube Music and SoundCloud Go+, it feels like they're kinda pricing themselves outta reach for some people.

I'm also curious about this... if Spotify is making so much money, why not use that to lower prices? It's like, I get that revenue growth is important, but there's gotta be a balance. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the artists getting paid, but it feels like the service itself is taking a hit on the users.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out 🤷‍♀️.

Omg did u hear that spotify is raising its prices again 🤑🎵? like i was already dreading it when they said they were gonna start increasing the prices in the uk last year, and now it's happening again! £12.99 for a premium plan feels so steep 🤯 especially when u got other music streaming services like apple music or amazon music that offer better deals 💸. i mean im all for them making more money but can't they just stick with the same prices they've had for ages? 😕 and btw, it's not just the uk tho... they're doing this in france & germany too 🤷‍♀️, and next stop is probably the us 🚀! what do u guys think about this price hike? should we be expecting more from our fave music streaming service? 🎶

🤑 another price hike from Spotify? I'm not buying it...pun intended! 🎶 They're saying revenue growth drove these increases, but how much of that is due to inflation and what's left over for actual 'growth'? £12.99 for a premium plan in the UK? That's still pretty cheap compared to some other streaming services. And what about those gains in subscribers? Are they just growing their user base without actually providing better music quality or features? 💸 I need more info on this before I'm convinced it's not just a case of price gouging... 🤔
