Quentin Tarantino's filmography is set to be immortalized in a 10-book series by Insight Editions, with the first installment, "The Making of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood'", hitting shelves this week. The forthcoming book is penned by author Jay Glennie, who has previously worked on films like "Performance", "Raging Bull", and "The Deer Hunter".
Tarantino himself is a big fan of Glennie's work, and as their first meeting was sparked by a shared love of Michael Cimino's 1978 Oscar winner "The Deer Hunter", it wasn't long before they planned an entire series of books on Tarantino's movies. The plan was to chronicle each film in depth, with the first one focusing on "Once Upon a Time", which was reportedly Glennie's favorite among Tarantino's films.
Intriguingly, the book includes multiple accounts from both big-name stars like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as lesser-known cast members and crew. The film's iconic locations, including the Playboy Mansion, are also extensively documented, while even behind-the-scenes anecdotes about a specific prop that Tarantino adored so much he halted production to play with it made the cut.
It is worth noting that while Tarantino will write introductions for each of the books, their release dates haven't yet been confirmed. The forthcoming titles span "Inglourious Basterds", "Django Unchained", and others - but as Glennie joked, he's not planning to stick to a strict chronological order! With "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction" likely among the next entries on the list, fans can expect a comprehensive overview of Tarantino's filmography in the years to come.
Interestingly, for both "Kill Bill: Vol 1" and "Vol 2", Glennie is planning a single book that will document both films. Both movies are set to be released as part of a re-released package this December - making it an ideal opportunity for Tarantino fans to catch up on some of their favorite films.
Of course, with the final installment being yet to be released, there's already plenty to speculate about in terms of what Glennie plans to cover next. While he wouldn't rule out the possibility of documenting Tarantino's upcoming film - or writing it via a more researched approach once again - his priority is clear: to deliver an authoritative and trustworthy account that honors Tarantino's trust.
