UN Condemns Israel's Attack on Peacekeepers in Lebanon, Citing "Very, Very Dangerous" Incident
A UN spokesperson described an Israeli drone attack that hit a peacekeeping patrol and a tank opened fire on UNIFIL troops as "very, very dangerous". The incident occurred near the border town of Kfar Kila in southern Lebanon.
According to Stephane Dujarric, the UN's top spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa region, Israeli forces had deployed a drone that dropped a grenade near the patrol, causing panic among peacekeepers. Later, a tank fired on the troops, leaving them shaken.
In response to this incident, the United Nations condemned Israel's actions as "dangerous". France also joined in criticizing the attack. The UN has been struggling with an Israeli attack that has been happening daily for years.
The US government is pressuring Lebanon to have Hezbollah surrender its arms to the country's army. This comes amid tensions between Lebanon and Israel, where five Israeli positions remain occupied.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem warned of possible war but noted that it depends on their calculations.
